Having trouble with your printer after updating to the latest version of Windows 11? Others are too.
The latest Windows 11 (24H2) update is causing printer compatibility issues, especially for ARM-based PCs (like Copilot+ devices).
ARM is a chip manufacturer. Windows 11 on ARM should support most printers, but many businesses with HP, Canon, Brother, and other brands of printers are still having problems. The main issue being reported is that people can’t install printer drivers or use certain features after installing the 24H2 update.
Microsoft have acknowledged the issue, and they’ve shared a workaround that should help while they work on a permanent fix.
Instead of using the manufacturer’s installation tool, you can try adding your printer manually. To do this, head to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, then click "Add device".
If you’re not sure whether you have an ARM device, go to Settings > System > About, and look under “System type”.
Some Intel and AMD systems are experiencing minor issues too – such as print queues stalling or printers disappearing - though this seems to be less common.
