Ever wished your keyboard had more keys? I’m sure it’s something we’ve all (never) thought about, right?!
Well, I can tell you who has thought about it: Google Japan. And now they’ve showcased their latest invention – a double-sided keyboard…
Yep, you read that right. A double-sided keyboard. And they’ve called it the “Double-Sided Gboard”. It features 208 mechanical keys, complete with RGB lighting, and weighs... erm... 20.8 donuts. A serious product for serious people, obviously!
It was inspired by the Möbius strip (a one-sided, twisted, continuous loop). The idea is that your keyboard is always the right way up, because it has keys on both sides.
Are you just as baffled as I am?
Though it sounds like something out of a sci-fi movie, and the promo video even suggests it could be used in space, Google isn't planning to sell it. Instead, they've made the plans open source, so you can build one yourself if you’re feeling adventurous.
While this keyboard might not be hitting the shelves anytime soon, it’s another example of Google’s tradition of crazy keyboard designs, like their hat keyboard or the keyboard that was also a ruler.
Would you and your team have a crack at building the Double-Sided Gboard for your office?
