The largest Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack ever recorded was successfully stopped in its tracks last month. Hooray!
But what exactly is this attack? And why does it matter for your business?
A DDoS attack is like a traffic jam on a highway – only, it’s all digital. Cyber criminals target a website and flood it with so much fake traffic, it can’t cope. This means if you were attacked, customers wouldn’t be able to access your website or place orders, and everything would grind to a halt.
The DDoS attack in September was enormous, peaking at 3.8 terabits per second (Tbps). The previous largest attack, back in 2021, reached 3.47 Tbps. To put it into perspective, that’s like adding thousands more cars to an already packed highway, all at once.
If you don’t put proper defenses around your business, getting caught in the crossfire could mean serious disruption, loss of revenue, and damage to your reputation.
So, how can you protect yourself? Invest in strong online security systems to help ensure that your website can handle unexpected spikes in traffic (whether that’s from real customers or fake traffic from malicious attacks). This is something we can help you with.
